What is JM?

Dr. Susan KimNearly 50 parents and caregivers attended this session led by Susan Kim, Pediatric Rheumatologist and Assistant in Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard University in Boston, MA.

Dr. Kim presented some of the basics of Juvenile Myositis (JM), including:

  • an explanation on how the immune system works
  • affects JM can have on a patient’s body
  • common JM treatments
  • factors that can trigger the onset of JM or a JM flare
  • what is an antibody and what is an auto-antibody
  • antibody phenotypes

“I am always seeking knowledge and understanding of what is going on in my son’s body. This session addressed exactly that,” says one mother. “It was a very impressive session and answered so many questions. I feel better informed now than I ever have.”
