Dawn Wahezi, MD, MS, is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology and Director of the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). Dr. Wahezi is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Wahezi is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), and the International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies Group (IMACS). Within CARRA, she has been an active member of the CARRA Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) Research Committee since 2011. Dr. Wahezi has participated in numerous collaborative research investigations within the CARRA network and in partnership with the Cure JM Foundation, participating in registry investigations, consensus treatment protocols and was awarded a Cure JM Early Investigator Award for her investigations in premature atherosclerosis. More recently, Dr. Wahezi has taken over as leader of the CARRA JDM calcinosis workgroup and has created the newly formed CARRA JDM COVID-19 Workgroup. Dr. Wahezi has authored numerous publications and is currently engaged in several research projects within the domains of JM. At the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), Dr. Wahezi has assembled a dedicated team to address the complex needs of children with JM, made up of pediatric sub-specialists including Rheumatology, Dermatology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychology, Neurology, and access to all other services, as needed. Dr. Wahezi and her clinical team aim to provide excellence in clinical care to a diverse population of children with juvenile myositis through state-of the-art patient care services, collaborative scientific investigation, comprehensive training to future pediatric rheumatologists, and partnership with Cure JM to support and advocate for patients and families.
