Shari Hume, MBA

Co-Founder, Member of the Cure JM Executive Committee

Shari co-founded Cure JM in 2003; just a year after learning that her son, Parker (then age 4), was battling Juvenile Dermatomyositis. Shari was inspired by her son's courage and resilience in fighting this disease and wanted to help other families affected by all forms of Juvenile Myositis. Shari is determined to find a cure for JM, so that no other children will suffer the debilitating effects of this disease.

Shari has served in multiple positions in the organization, including President and VP of Marketing, but her passion now is driving Cure JM’s research agenda. Shari is active in fundraising and garnering media awareness for Cure JM Foundation. She also helps guide other families with their fundraising efforts; and connects families with others for support.

Shari has received several awards for her leadership and fundraising efforts for Cure JM Foundation, including the Channel 10 News Leadership Award as well as Hero of the Marathon and Spirit of Joshua awards at the Carlsbad Marathon. She was also recognized by the San Diego Union-Tribune and was named one of “Time Warner's 50 Best Moms of San Diego”, based on an essay written by her son Parker in 2010.

Shari received her MBA from SMU in Dallas, TX and her BA from Southwest Texas State University, (now Texas State University), where she received a full tennis scholarship. After graduation, Shari worked as an Account Executive at Bozell, Inc. on the American Airlines account and an Account Supervisor at Temerlin-McClain Advertising (now TM Advertising) in Dallas. Her clients included American Airlines, 7-Eleven, Paramount Parks, and GTE (now Verizon).

She and husband, Tom, are the parents of three boys: Connor, Parker, and Cole.
