Lake Carpenter

Lake Carpenter is a native western Oklahoman who formerly served on Cure JM Foundation's Board of Directors.

The diagnosis of his youngest daughter Kya at the age of 2 prompted him and his family to actively get involved in Cure JM and to volunteer in any way possible whether it be to raise awareness, educate the community and those around them concerning the disease or to help raise funds for research and ultimately a cure for all children and adults who suffer and battle this disease. Lake and his wife Kalee have attended Cure JM’s national educational and fundraising conferences since their daughter was first diagnosed.

Being raised on a farm on the western plains of Oklahoma, Lake was an active athlete in basketball and baseball along with being involved in FFA and 4-H where he served as chapter President of his high school FFA organization. Also, Lake has been a vocal entertainer since the age of 6. He has performed on a local, state and national level. In 1993, he was named Male Vocalist of the Year under the age of 16 at the Oklahoma Opry. In 1995, Lake was selected to sing and perform on the Nashville Network Television station. In last 5 years Lake and his oldest daughter have been the opening vocal acts for Country Music Stars Ronnie Milsap and the Oak Ridge Boys.

Carpenter loves the theatre and has performed in numerous lead roles in a variety of Broadway musicals including Will Parker in Oklahoma, Hines in The Pajama Game, Frank Butler in Annie Get Your Gun, and recently as Albert Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie. Red Carpet Community Theatre has named him Best Actor in a Musical in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.   Recently Lake received his Miss Oklahoma judge certification and serves as a member of the Miss Elk City / Miss Queen of the West Pageant Board  of Directors. Recently, He and former Miss America Susan Powell hosted and emceed the 50th anniversary Miss Elk City/Queen of the West pageant.

Lake graduated with Magna Cum Laude Honors from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science. Currently, he is the Senior Vice President and Head Cashier for Bank of Western Oklahoma and is Music Minister at the First Baptist Church of Leedey, Oklahoma.  Lake has been an active Rotarian of the Elk City  Rotary Club for  the past 10 years. He was the Rotary  Club President in 2005-2006.

He and his wife, Kalee are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, who also keep them busy with different activities. In his spare time, Lake enjoys working on the farm, riding horses and taking care of their cattle herds. The courage and strength his youngest child has and continues to display in her battle with JM encourages him and his family to strive each day to help find a cure.
