Cure JM Foundation Press Releases

New Award is Based on Positive Online Reviews

ENCINITAS, CA (October 6, 2013) – Cure JM Foundation has been honored with a prestigious 2013 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations. Says Great Nonprofits staff, “We are especially thrilled to recognize the great work of your organization, given that less than 1% of eligible nonprofits have received this distinction.”

Cure JM made the Top-Rated list because of many positive reviews about our work from donors and partners. Says one reviewer:

“Cure JM Foundation was my flashlight in a pitch dark tunnel. I am grateful for the endless information, support, and knowledge I find there.”

Cure JM Foundation is a volunteer-managed 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Juvenile Myositis (JM).  Juvenile Myositis is an incurable, life-threatening disease. Each year, about 1,000 children are diagnosed. JM can cause muscle pain, weakness, fatigue and can attack nearly all systems of the body. JM often causes a wide range of medical complications. It can be treatable, but oftentimes the treatments are worse than the disease itself.

“We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2013 Nonprofit,” says Mitali Dave, President of the Cure JM Board of Directors.  “We are proud of our accomplishments this year.”

In 2013, through mostly grass-roots fundraising, Cure JM has:

  • Continued to fund two Juvenile Myositis Research Centers.
  • Held a successful National Educational Conference and Fundraiser in Chicago, IL.
  • Sponsored a medical conference that brought together more than 60 doctors and medical professionals from across the country to learn about Juvenile Myositis.
  • Announced that it will fund an international forum in 2014; doctors from around the world will gather and define the standards by which future Juvenile Myositis research and treatments will be measured.
  • Invested in its own growth and long-term sustainability by holding its first Board of Directors strategic planning session and hiring two employees.

“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “People with direct experience with Cure JM have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”

Being on the Top-Rated list gives donors and volunteers more confidence that this is a credible organization. The reviews by volunteers, clients and other donors show the on-the-ground results of this nonprofit.  This award is a form of recognition by the community.

About Cure JM

Cure JM Foundation is a volunteer-managed nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Juvenile Myositis (JM).  JM is a group of rare and incurable, life-threatening autoimmune conditions affecting approximately 17,000 children in the U.S. alone.  The Cure JM mission is to provide support for families coping with JM, raise awareness of JM, and fund research that will ultimately lead to a cure.  Cure JM is the only organization that is solely dedicated to JM research and JM families.

Through nationwide grassroots fundraising efforts, over $5 million has been raised for Cure JM Foundation since 2003. These funds have been used to help establish JM research centers at Chicago Children's Memorial Research Center and George Washington University in Washington, D.C.,  to fund a wide range of genetic and JM treatment studies and to provide research fellowships.  Cure JM’s goal is to never, ever let another child suffer with Juvenile Myositis.  With your help, we believe it is a goal that’s well within our reach.  For more information on Cure JM visit Cure JM Foundation is a tax-exempt organization under the Internal Revenue Service code 501(c)(3).
