Cure JM Foundation 2016 Annual Conference Recap

Fundraising Workshop

The National Family Conference and Fundraising Event is Cure JM's biggest annual fundraiser. By participating in the fundraising, Cure JM families have a lot of fun and make much-needed Juvenile Myositis research possible.

Sharyn After Completing the Half Marathon

First-time participant Sharyn Kerwin raised funds by participating in the St. Pete Beach Classic Half Marathon.

This year, Cure JM families have raised over $600,000 for JM research in the last couple of months!  Families raised these funds either by participating in the National Conference and Fundraising Event, the CrowdRise Holiday Challenge, or by holding an event in their hometown.

The National Conference and Fundraising Event is a "virtual" fundraising event!  To participate, each family shared their online fundraising page link with their friends and family who then made donations.

First-time participant Sharyn Kerwin raised funds by participating in the St. Pete Beach Classic, her first ever half-marathon!  Sharyn has been training for the race for several months.

“Running doesn’t come naturally to me,” says Sharyn. “But I want to make a difference for my daughter so I know I just have to do it.”

By sending emails to her friends and family and asking them to donate to her fundraising page, Sharyn was able to exceed her $2,000 fundraising goal.

This was Sharyn’s first time raising funds for JM research and she says it has been an empowering experience. “It feels really good to be able to help,” says Sharyn.

Another first-time attendee, Mary Peters, cheered on the racers and was able to exceed her fundraising goal just by sending out a couple of emails and asking her friends and family to donate to JM research. In the end, Mary exceeded her fundraising goal by enlisting the help of her mom Melanie who forwarded Mary’s fundraising email to all of her friends and family.

“It was an honor to help my granddaughter in this way,” says Melanie, “My friends want to help my granddaughter and they were happy to donate to such a worthy cause in her honor.”

Thank you to all of the families who participated. Email if you want to participate in future fundraisers or have any questions.
