Cure JM Foundation 2018 National Family Conference Recap

Understanding JM Treatments & Side Effects: Ask the Doctors

Pediatric rheumatologist Megan Curran, M.D. and pediatric researcher Hanna Kim, M.D. shared their knowledge of the treatments available to JM patients and their possible side effects.

“The panel was an opportunity for parents to learn the basics about medications we use to treat JM - the parts of the immune system targeted, a little about how the meds work and side effects,” said Dr. Curran.

There were a wide range of questions, including those from newly-diagnosed families who needed to hear the basics about medications they are starting, like steroids, Methotrexate, Hydroxychloroquine and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), as well as questions addressing second-line medications like Rituximab, CellCept, and Biologics.
