Teens & Young Adults: Support and Self Advocating

Teen PanelThis session was facilitated by Cure JM's Teen Council Representatives and posed some common questions that teens and young adults have about their JM experience:

  • What future treatments will I need?
  • How will my boyfriend/girlfriend react if I tell him/her I have a rare disease?
  • Can I pass JM on to my children?
  • How do I get my parents to worry less?

The session offered teens and young adults the chance to ask questions, discuss issues and share coping strategies with their peers.

“While the whole conference is an amazing place for families to make connections and get information from doctors, this session provides a safe place for those personally suffering from the disease to bond, get advice, and see that they are not alone in their fight.” Anna Schwartz-Ramsey, a Teen Ambassador for Cure JM said.
“The young adults are always so excited to hear everyone has had similar experiences and a place to share their frustration and their strength.”
