Skin Diseases and Skin Protection Panel

Adam I. Schiffenbauer, M.D. leading session.Sun exposure is a critical issue for those living with Juvenile Myositis. This panel posed the following questions:

  • How do you handle this constant environmental challenge?
  • What is the best sunblock?
  • How can you make sure your child is protected, even when you are not there?
  • What are the latest approaches to managing skin disease and the best strategies for keeping my child sun safe?

“Regular diligent UV and sun protection appears to be a modifiable risk factor for Juvenile Myositis that we have some control over. Therefore, UV protection is very important in JM, not only for its present-day benefits (e.g. to help prevent skin and disease flares), but also its long-term benefits (e.g. to prevent aging and skin cancer),” said Susan Kim, MD, MMSc.
